Roles and Responsibilities

I deliver domestic and industrial machine knit workshops to all students from first year to postgraduate, including preparing the notes and knitted samples. I assist students in the workshop this can range from machine issues to knit structures and yarn choices. Students also learn how to design knit using CAD on Shima Seiki design software, I demonstrate and guide them on programme and knit samples on our computerised knitting machines.

I have worked for small local knitwear companies in the Scottish borders and in Northern Ireland. Upon graduating with my degree in Design for Textiles, my first job was in the industry as a garment technologist for a knitwear company in Yorkshire. This gave me an amazing insight into how fast-paced it is and all the stages of preparation that the garments go through to achieve that final fit for bulk production.

In my spare time, I knit some more! Usually, hand knitting and crochet as I don’t have any machinery at home. I appreciate and love natural and unusual yarn blends. In 2018 I attended Pitti Filatti in Florence which is a yarn lover’s dream and I intend to go back as soon as I can. The Edinburgh Yarn show is another favourite of mine.
