Roles and Responsibilities
I am the technical officer for research and commercialisation. I currently test fabrics and fibres from traditional textiles in natural fibres to Technical textiles and provide technical support to our Postgraduate and PHD students. I also provide links between Industry and the University.
Technical Officer for Research and Commercialisation
There are two main areas of responsibility to this post. Firstly the technical requirements of our post graduate community. Secondly to promote the schools service activities.
Postgraduate. Help students with PhD and research projects. Provide technical support to students wishing to manufacture polymer filament yarns using our extrusion facility. Maintain and upgrade the Schools Electron micrograph archive.
Commercial. Provide and promote the commercial physical textile testing, known as Scottish Innovation and Design. I liaise with the South of Scotland business solutions project (knowledge transfer hub), Scottish enterprise and interface on projects for industry.
I have around thirty years’ experience in commercial textiles, seventeen of those in Textile Testing Quality Control and Product Development. I have worked for Peter MacArthur of Hamilton whose client base included Ralph Lauren, Burberry, Gap, Gaultier, and M&S. I also worked for MacNaughton Holdings in Perth for 7 years as QC Manager covering a wide product base from Highland wear to Contract Upholstery.
