Roles and Responsibilities

Role & Responsibilities

Since early 2013, I have been the Screen-print Technical Demonstrator, maintaining a lively print room and delivering technical expertise and knowledge supporting undergraduate, masters and research students. I oversee production on some the longest print beds in an educational establishment throughout Europe.

I have a keen interest in encouraging people of all ages to study textile design, working with groups of school children, work experience and summer school participants throughout the year on several different projects and activities within and outwith the School. To this end I have been a key player in the Summer Schools offered annually, providing design and technical tuition to participants from far and wide. I am also a tutor on the Creative Residency, a summer workshop for pupils from North Lanarkshire held in Oban each year.

Biography

I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Design for Textiles from the School of Textiles & Design, Heriot-Watt University in 2007. That same year I was selected as one of the 24 best textile design graduates studying in the UK by Texprint and presented my final year collection at Premiere Vision in Paris. Followed by a 4-month placement with a design company in India.

I moved back to the Borders in 2009 and set up my own business, GraceInk Design, producing bespoke screen-printed products inspired by my love of travel and experiencing different cultures. Alongside my role at the University, I am studying part time for a Masters by Research, which I hope to complete towards the end of 2018.
