Our world-leading research saves lives.

We have been world leaders of many major developments including: chromic materials, printing on cashmere knitwear, 3D simulation of flexible materials, inks for digital printers, fibre optic weaving, nano-technology and medical textiles.

Our world-leading research is supported by the research councils, the European Union, and the fashion, textiles and design industry. Our industry research has been published and exhibited all over the world from: Vogue to Chemical Review, the Milan Design Festival to the House of Lords and Blueprint to CNN.

Our research activities ensure that we continue to lead in fashion, textile and design industry developments. It supports our engagement with industry. Ensures that our teaching is always up to date and prepares our graduates for the world of work. Our research provides a practical reference point for theoretical work. And helps develop the transferable problem solving skills. Most importantly though – our research saves lives.
