Textiles Competition

Back To News

We said we’d keep you updated on the Cameron Smail Library textiles design competition and we now have our winning designs…

Kathy McCabe, Wendy Pirie and Iain Young from the judging panel came to our Scottish Borders Campus to make the presentation last week, Kathy said ‘I was extremely impressed with the pitches, they were of a professional standard which made it an agonising decision to choose a winner’.

However, they did eventually select two gold winners, Miriam Totterdale and Holly Houston, who will have their designs used on the fabric for the sofas and chairs within the new library.

The silver award went to Jessica Barbagallo Usher Smith whose designs will be used for the cushions.

The rest of the finalists, Kes Andrews, Malgorzata Stasiulewicz and Kirsten Graham were also given awards.

A big thank you to all the entrants, the standard of work was extremely high.

Thank you also to the Heriot-Watt staff who made this happen – Kathy McCabe, Wendy Pirie, Mark Parker and Iain Young.

We look forward to seeing the finished pieces in the new library and here’s to many more collaborative live projects within the university.
