A new scholarship for students at the School has been won by 3rd year BA Design for Textiles Student, Lanya Davis.
Launched by the Scottish Borders Manufacturers’ Corporation (SBMC) to mark its 240th anniversary this year, the annual scholarship offers the winning student a four-week internship in the Borders or even working abroad. The scholarship involves advice and mentoring to help students prepare for a career in the industry, together with financial support for travel and other costs.
The corporation also award the Medal and monetary prize that they present annually at graduation to the most successful Design Technology student in final year.
‘Having completed numerous fashion/textile internships in varied areas over the last few years I feel it is now important to gain experience specifically in the print industry. I am interested in witnessing first hand a varied amount of creative processes that companies are using and feel it will allow me to develop ideas I have for my final collection and advance them to the highest, professional standard. I have developed skills in a number of areas including pattern cutting, fashion illustration, garment construction, hand & machine embroidery, fabric construction and print. By specialising in print I want to feel as prepared and knowledgeable as possible before beginning my final year at Heriot-Watt School of Textiles and Design.’
A huge congratulations to Lanya and we can’t wait to see her development through 4th year, here at the School.
