Most of us would feel a little tongue-tied when speaking with royalty but not our third year, Design for Textiles student, Lanya Davis. Lanya’s class were working on a live project with Bute Fabrics when Lanya and fellow student, Kirsty Jack, were selected to do an internship with them. Lanya spent her time on the Isle of Bute weaving and learning about their projects and beautiful materials. When Prince Charles paid them a visit, Lanya spoke to him and thanked him for the support he gives to another project she is involved in at Dumfries House – it’s fair to say he seemed quite chuffed.
Lanya’s work at Dumfries House has opened up the opportunity for her and fellow students to meet others within the fashion industry, including Jenny Dyson. Jenny is founder of London Fashion Week Daily and ruler of the The Pencil Agency. Lanya, along with Maria Buchanan and Meghan Clarke (Design for Textiles students) worked with Jenny to create some children’s clothes at the magical Port Eliot Festival in Cornwall.
2016 has been a busy year for Lanya and her fellow students and they’re looking forward to even more internships, work placements and making new textiles friends along the way.
Good Luck to all our students for 2017.
Have a look to see if you’d like to study Design for Textiles with us.
