Our third year BSc (Hons) Fashion Technology students complete an industry placement in semester two.
They gain invaluable experience, putting their university based theory and skills into practice, doing real jobs. They’re treated as members of staff, so they’re not only doing the actual jobs but learning priceless ‘soft skills’ such as workplace ettiquette, dealing with senior people and working in teams. This gives the students a huge advantage when applying for jobs after they’ve graduated.
Employers value this experience and are looking for graduates who are ready for the workplace.
BSc (Hons) Fashion Techology student, Katie Woods, did her placement with Halfpenny, London and enjoyed it immensely. Jessica Reece Managing Director said:
“Katie’s enthusiasm towards learning and taking on every task to the best of her abilities has made her a stand-out intern. Coupled with the array of industry knowledge she has from her studies, Katie has exceeded our expectations in the studio and production areas of our brand. She has given her very best, and has gained the practical skills to reinforce the subjects of the course.”
All of this, linked with a very commercially focussed degree course specialising in the technology of materials, patterns and manufacture of garments, prepares graduates for a wide variety of career opportunities within the fashion industry.
