Scarlett Carruthers, our current third year BA (Hons) Fashion student will be going out to work at Helsinki Fashion Week in the summer. It’s the first 100% sustainable fashion week. The annual Helsinki Fashion Week takes place on 20th-25th of July 2018 in Helsinki, Finland showcasing 30 sustainable fashion brands in venues built on recycled and re-usable natural materials. Scarlett was inspired by Evelyn Mora who gave a Skype lecture, as part of the International Change Makers series, here at the School in March.
Evelyn is a Finnish entrepreneur, founder and CEO of Helsinki Fashion Week and a go-to brand strategist on fashion, trends and sustainability. She’s also on the boards for Helsinki Fashion District and Nordic Fashion Week. She’s been called ‘multi-talented’ by Vogue Italy and ‘a game changer’ by Glamour, South Africa – high praise indeed.
Evelyn’s lecture struck a chord with Scarlett; she wanted to get involved and gain experience alongside her. With the help of Dr Sue Thomas and a few Skype calls later, Scarlett will be going out to Helsinki to be part of the exciting, innovative fashion week.
We’re really excited about the venture and top marks to Scarlett for taking the initiative and making it happen.
Scarlett will be writing a mini-blog of her time there so watch this space for updates in the summer and best of luck Scarlett, we think you’ll do very well.
