A huge congratulations to Aoife Malone, BA (Hons) Fashion Communication, who won this year’s Fashion Styling & Creation Direction Award, sponsored by size?. Aoife took to the stage to claim her trophy and a cash prize for her creative body of work, which was inspired by her heritage and upbringing in Belfast.
Through fashion photography and styling, Aoife’s work explored the contemporary politics and issues that still affect young people living in Northern Ireland today. The photography focuses on key issues, that in her opinion, are preventing Northern Ireland from becoming a progressive society; including attitudes towards abortion, same-sex marriage, loyalist marches, segregated schooling and punishment beatings.
It’s the third year in a row that our BA (Hons) Fashion Communication programme has delivered a win at Graduate Fashion Week for Heriot-Watt University – so as well as congratulating Aoife, we’d also like to say thanks to the hard working staff who make this possible. Well done to all involved.
