The Worshipful Company of Weavers Scholarship Awards Lunch, hosted in London last week was a double success for us here at the School of Textiles and Design.
Esther Mason, a 4th Year BA (Hons) Design for Textiles, weave student, attended the Awards Lunch, along with her tutor, Associate Professor Fiona Pankhurst. Esther won a £2,000 scholarship award and was given the opportunity, along with the other award winners, to show some of her design work and network with the invited industry guests.
Honorary Professor Sheila-Mary Carruthers, who is the Design Director for Carruthers Associates, a textile design business, was awarded the Company’s prestigious Silver Medal Award for a lifetime of service to the textile industry. Sheila-Mary was also a student; has taught at the School of Textiles and Design and now acts as an ambassador, supporter and friend of the School.
Dr Patrick Grant, our honorary graduate of the School; Creative Director of Savile Row tailors – Norton & Sons; and TV judge on BBC’s ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’ presented the medal to Sheila-Mary, a lovely symmetry as she had given him his Laureation for his Doctorate from the School of Textiles and Design.
Congratulations to both Esther and Sheila-Mary, what a wonderful reflection of the School’s reputation to receive these awards.
