A prominent member of the Scottish Parliament visited Heriot-Watt’s School of Textiles and Design in Galashiels, today (Friday, 24 August).
Christine Grahame MSP (pictured right) met with a student who recently won a prestigious RSA Design Award in London and Head of School, Professor Fiona Waldron.
Jason’s award-winning design involved a ‘self-assembled’ kitchen to encourage greater social interaction, meet sustainable needs and be easily available for use in disaster relief zones.
During the visit, the Minister also took a tour of the campus which included the Masters Degree show exhibition space where students were setting up for their ‘Masters at Work‘ interactive show and open studio, this evening.
Commenting on the visit, Ms Grahame said: “I’m delighted to meet Jason to hear about his award winning work. He’s evidence of the wealth of talent we have living and studying right here in the Borders.
“I hope this may inspire even more people to consider studying in the Borders, with all it has to offer.”
Professor Fiona Waldron, Head of School (pictured right) said: “It was great to welcome Ms Grahame to our thriving campus in the heart of the Scottish Borders.
“Our student was delighted to meet the politician and talk about his design and winning such an impressive award.
“It also gave us a great opportunity to showcase our campus and we thank the politician for taking the time to come and meet Jason and see all the wonderful things that go on here.”
