Design for Textiles is a world renowned course with close industry connections
Design for Textiles is an established programme, encouraging a highly creative approach to textile design. You have options to specialise in printed, woven and knitted textiles.
The main market sectors covered are fashion fabrics, furnishing fabrics, fashion & interior accessories, wall coverings, gallery pieces, greetings cards and gift wrap.
There is an emphasis on practice-based exploration, supported by appropriate theory & fabric making production techniques. Courses cover: Design initiation & development; technical understanding; innovation; marketing and context.
Design For Textiles at Heriot-Watt produces some of the world’s best graduates.
Students are encouraged to do an informal work placement between Levels three and four of the programme. During the Summer vacation, recent students have been working in print, weave and knit departments of companies such as: Quicksilver (France), Timorous Beasties (Glasgow), Bute Fabrics, Liberty of London, Mary Katrantzou (London) and Jonathon Saunders (London).
Graduating students have opportunities to showcase their work at a variety of industry facing events,such as the University stand at New Designers London, Graduate Fashion week (London) and a selection for professional shows such as Milan furniture fair and many more.
