The campus offers a range of support services for students. And has a lively Students' Association with strong links to its partner on our Edinburgh Campus.
‘Galashiels is a brilliant town to be a student. There is a real creative buzz here as there are so many design students in the town and lots of art stores and craft shops. The nightlife is all geared towards students but when I need my city fix there’s a train to Edinburgh every 30 minutes so I get the best of both worlds.’
Caroline Duff – BA Fashion (4th year student)
Galashiels is a town in the Scottish Borders, with many festivals and events celebrating the town’s creative scene and rich creative heritage.
The town is packed with facilities; the local independent cinema, The Pavilion, shows all the latest movies. Not to mention the plethora of bars and restaurants, catering for every taste.
Students who study at Galashiels can take advantage of sporting opportunities locally.
There’s discounted membership rates for TriFitness, the new sports centre next to the campus. TriFitness offers a huge range of gym and cardio equipment, as well as fitness and dance classes, and is run by the Borders Sport & Leisure Trust in partnership with Heriot-Watt University and Borders College.
Other sports facilities in Galashiels include a swimming pool, athletics track, all-weather pitches, games halls, tennis and squash courts. There are local teams in most sports.
The surrounding countryside has golf courses and opportunities for fishing and horse riding. Cycling enthusiasts can use the 90-mile Tweed cycleway and for walkers the Southern Upland Way passes through the town.
Many students take advantage of Galashiels’ proximity to Edinburgh and participate in the clubs and activities on the Edinburgh Campus. And with the Borders rail link now up and running, students are only a short train ride away from Scotland’s stunning capital city.
