Roles and responsibilities
I am Director of the Fashion Cluster (Menswear, Womenswear, Fashion, Fashion communication, Fashion marketing and retail, Fashion design for industry and Fashion and Fashion marketing and retail (Dubai campus). I provide strategic direction and support to the pathway leaders as well as running the fashion courses. I am involved tangentially in the Scottish Academy of Fashion as the school’s Director of Fashion.
Research Supervision
Commonwealth fellow supervision exploring development of Jacquard knitting to represent traditional graphic Indian textiles.
Research
My current research is exploring the role of fashion and materials technology and innovation within space clothing and space fashion/couture.

- Paper presentation at “Humans in Outer Space” scoping conference, La Palma, Canaries, April 2009 paper entitled “Fashion and Clothing in Space” Organisers European Science Foundation
- Presentation at 59th International Astronautical Congress, October 2008 “Less remote strand” exploring art and culture in Space. Paper entitled “ Garments for reduced Gravity environments” organised by Fliss Holland the Arts Catalyst, Leonardo, Olats and sponsored by IAA commission V1.
Exhibitions
- One man show, Scottish Fisheries museum, Anstruther (A recognised Collection of national significance) exploring photography and sculpture from fishing boats and beach flotsam and jetsom, January to April 2008
- One man photography show Eyemouth museum April to May 2009. Exploring abstract details of fishing boats resident in Eyemouth harbour.
Biography
Qualifications, affiliations and achievements
- BA in Constructed Textiles, Liverpool Polythechnic (now John Moores University)
- MA in fashion knitwear at the Central/St Martin’s School of Art in London
- I was chosen as one of 12 young designers into industry from the UK graduating design cohort by the Royal Society of Arts, which allowed me to spend 18 months as the yarn designer for the UK largest fancy yarn spinners, William Hutchinson Yarns ltd in Bradford
- I was a knitwear designer for Courtaulds knitwear in Nottingham, designing womens-wear and menswear, for Marks and Spencer plc.
